Monument to the Victims of the Explosion

Užice, Serbia
During the National Liberation War, Yugoslav partisans retook the city of Užice from fascist forces on 24 September 1941. A series of mining tunnels beneath the city were developed into an ammunition factory from around October onwards, but on 22 November an act of sabotage resulted in an explosion that claimed the lives of 120 workers. This monument, raised 20 years later, commemorates the victims. Sculptor: Boris Anastasijević Completed: 1961 Formerly Yugoslavia
